1) Daytime Classes in August - Puppy 1 and Grade School

Start: Monday, August 5th, 2019. Six week course, once a week on Mondays. No class on Labor Day - last class on September 16th.

Times:
Puppy 1 - Preschool: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Grade School: 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM

Puppy 1 - Preschool is our starter class for all puppies age 8 weeks to about 5 months, after they have received their second vaccines. This class is a balanced mix of play times, learning for the handlers and exercises for the puppies. Addressed are proper play, mouthing, polite behaviors and how to motivate our dogs to WANT to behave rather than to HAVE TO.

Grade School is our practicing and proving class, after the dogs have graduated from either Puppy 2 - Kindergarten or Foundation Class. We use the whole hour to practice Focus, Loose Leash Walking, Recall, Stay and more with increasing distractions. This class is the gate to all other manners classes - CGC-Prep, CLASS-BA and Junior High.

Evening classes starting on Monday, August 5th:

Puppy 2 - Kindergarten: 6:15 PM - 7:15 PM
Foundation Class: 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

2) Rare Opportunity - Start Treibball With A Beginner Class In August!

This is our best class to carefully introduce your dog to off-leash and distance work! In Treibball we teach our dogs to go behind an object (exercise ball), stay there, go from there either back to us or further out and to finally push the ball towards us. They learn to circle an object, even with the object being further away from us!

Start with the Treibball Beginner Class in August, then continue with Treibball Intermediate
and be ready for next summer's outdoor Treibball Practices - the next step in off-leash training!

Other Dog Sports at The Better Companion:

Agility Classes: Saturdays, starting September 14th.

Nose Work Classes: Sundays, starting September 22nd.

3) Canine Good Citizen (CGC)-Test In August - Call For Volunteers

Date: Wednesday, August 28th.

Timeline:
5:30 PM - volunteers arrive and help set up. Brief description of the different tasks and distribution of volunteers for the different tasks and stations.
6:00 PM - handlers arrive to sign in and pay (if not pre-paid). Sign-in order will be running order.
6:15 PM (or after sign-in is completed) - handler briefing by the evaluator
6:30 PM (or after briefing) - test begins with the first dog.
End: usually about 7:30 - 8:00 PM, depending on number of dogs signed up.

To volunteer is the best way to learn about this program and to see if this could be something for your dog! Are you looking into becoming a therapy dog/handler team with your dog? Then this is what you'll need! The therapy dog evaluation uses a modified CGC-test format when scanning their dog/handler teams. Knowing what to work on with your dog will be very helpful in your training. Search and Rescue teams have to pass the CGC-test or equivalent before they can be used at an official search.

Email us if you'd like to volunteer!

We look forward to seeing you at the CGC-Test, either as a volunteer or with your dog!

Enjoy the Journey of Dog Training!
